Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

12 Apr

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is my third time reading this book and I swear I see something I missed with each reading of the book. I also realized just how much they left out of the movie when they filmed this one. Wow! I can’t believe how unimportant they made Neville’s character. He should’ve been the fourth main character in my opinion, especially due to the later books. I’m now heading into reading the second book in the series as I’ve only read it and the remainder of the series once. My goal is to re-read them all prior to the release of the last movie. I tend to not re-read books, but this series is just too detailed and good not to.

Book #6 of the Readathon

Weird little manga series that was actually written in the states. There are several story lines going on throughout this book and I liked some more than others. Interesting though and very different from most manga I’ve read. Since I have #2 I’ll go ahead and read it and then that will determine whether I want to order the 3rd and final installment of the series

Readathon Final Results

10 Apr

Now that Dewey’s 24-Readathon I’m slowly trying to recover.  I started reading yesterday at 8:00am and continued reading until about 4:30am today.  Yeah, I didn’t quit make it 24 hours.  If I had really wanted to push myself at that point I probably could’ve made it, but I figured I was probably already pushing myself on getting a migraine after the fact staying awake as long as I did.   Maybe next time I’ll take a longer nap or two naps throughout the day instead of just the 30 minutes this time around in order to stay up till the end.  I was a “readathon virgin” until yesterday so I am content with the length of time I stayed awake this time around.  That being said, I had a great time doing it and DO plan on participating again, though don’t know if my schedule will allow it.  Just have to wait and see when the dates arrive what things looks like.  It took me three years to find time this first time around.  🙂

Now… for the final stats of my readathon:

Completed:

Grape City by Kevin L. Donihe – 105 pages

The Faggiest Vampire by Carlton Mellick III – 99 pages

Emily the Strange #1 – 152 pages

Me, Myself, and Why? by MaryJanice Davidson – 302 pages

Heaveworld by Cullen Bunn – 85 pages

Peepo Choo Vol. 1 by Felipe Smith – 256 pages

Partially read:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone – page 169 of 384

Total Pages Read:

1168

In the end that gave me an average of 54 pages/minute, though of course comics/manga probably swayed the page count a little.  That’s what they were in for though and they also helped me reach the 1000+ page count mark.  🙂  I didn’t meet the goals of my previous post, but realized they were going to be unrealistic anyway based on my pages/hour.  That first Harry Potter book is actually longer than I remembered.  I was enjoying reading it though since it had been a while.  I am hoping to re-read the full series between now and July when the final movie comes out.

I hope everyone else has as much fun as I did yesterday and that you all met your own personal goals.

Now… I’m debating whether my eyes can handle a bit of reading this morning… errr… afternoon or not.  Maybe I’ll take another snooze a little later.  *grin*

19 hours down, 5 to go

10 Apr

Well, I’m holding up better than I thought being that it’s 3:00 am right now.  It appears that the two that most talked me into doing this readathon, Ann & Shaunesay, have both crashed for the night, but I could be wrong… just haven’t heard from them in a while.  May have to *whip* them later for leaving me.  *G*  My boyfriend also pooped out on me 1.5 hours ago, but after a 30 minute nap and a refreshing shower I’ve got my second wind.  I’ve since finished two books I was in the process of reading and made process on the other one.  Here’s the latest stats:

Completed:

Grape City by Kevin L. Donihe – 105 pages

The Faggiest Vampire by Carlton Mellick III – 99 pages

Emily the Strange #1 – 152 pages

Me, Myself, and Why? by MaryJanice Davidson – 302 pages

Heaveworld by Cullen Bunn – 85 pages

In Process:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone – page 113 of 384

Total Pages Read so far:

856

My average is now down to 45 pages an hour, but I know that I took breaks to blog, facebook, tweet, eat, etc, so all in all not too bad, especially given that I’m typically a slow reader.

My goals for the rest of the read-a-thon are:

  1. Stay awake the remaining 5 hours (LOL!!!)
  2. Finish reading Harry Potter 1
  3. Read Peepo Choo 1 & 2

Depending on how things go with 2 & 3 I may add or adjust things, but that’s what I’m thinking of doing.

If you’re still up and reading, be sure to post and let me know how things are going for you.  Not sure how many of us are left on here.  🙂

Book #5 of the Readathon!

I had to read this one in bits throughout the day, especially the first four stories since they were entries for the WHC Gross-Out Contest. They were a bit much to take in all at once as Cullen seems to be a master of the grotesque. Great stories though… all of them. The novella that filled up the rest of the book was an extremely bizarre idea and very gross at times. Not sure where he comes up with these ideas, but they sure are messed up!

Review: Me, Myself, and Why

Me, Myself, and Why (Cadence Jones, #1)Me, Myself, and Why by MaryJanice Davidson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Readathon Book #4 – Yet another great novel by MJD. This one actually has a bit more meat to it compared to her other series so it wasn’t as fast a read as I was expecting, but still a fun read all-around. The main character… err… characters is a girl(s) with a split personality disorder. The three personalities that she has are all hilarious in their own ways. I think my favorite of the three was Adrienne just because she was SO bizarre and random. LOL! Definitely looking forward to the next book in this series to come out.

Midnight Readathon Thoughts

10 Apr

Zzzzzzz…. Zzzzzz…. Zzzzzzz….

huh?  wha?  Oh… yeah… time to wake back up… it’s still read-a-thon time!

Just took about a 30 minute nap so as to get refreshed a little before digging into the last 8 hours.  Hopefully I can make it all the way through now.  Think I’m going to take a quick shower to get myself recharged and then dig back in.  I won’t give my update of page count and such until my next posting as I’m hoping to complete another book or two before the next post, but I’m still at 3 books complete and I’m in the middle of 3 more.

Definitely enjoying myself and am really glad that Ann and Mel talked me into doing it this year.  It’s been lots of fun.  Now… for that shower!  🙂
